CAT 2017 Exam Dates, Application Form & Registration, Syllabus

CAT 2017 (Common Admission Test) is the gateway entrance examination for admission to PG programs in Business Administration offered at 19 IIMs in India. It is also one of the top management exams adopted by a number of B-schools across the country for admissions into PG programmes. This is a national level test organized every year by the consortium of IIMs on rotational basis. The scores of CAT 2017 will be considered for admissions in 2018 academic year.

Eligibility Criteria

The candidates are eligible to apply for CAT 2017 if they have passed any Bachelors degree (minimum 3 Years after 10+2) or been awaiting results of final year or to appear in final exam of qualifying degree. The applicants must have scored 50% or equivalent CGPA (45% for SC, ST, PwD) by the time of admissions.

The candidates awaiting results shall submit a certificate stating that they have completed all the requirements for obtaining the Bachelor’s degree/equivalent qualification issued by the Principal / Registrar of their University/institution before the date stipulated by the CAT 2017 organizing IIM. However such candidates shall submit their marks as per the eligibility criteria at the time of selection process at IIMs.

CAT 2017 Application Form and Registration

The candidates willing to tale CAT 2017 have to apply in online mode only. The candidates initially have to do one time registration with CAT application portal. After successful registration candidates can proceed for filling online application form and payment of application fee.

Application fee is Rs.1600/- for general applicants and Rs.800/- for SC, ST and PwD category candidates as per the previous year fee structure. For 2017 year CAT application fee may vary a little. The application fee can be paid in online mode only using credit card / debit card / net banking facilities.

CAT 2017 Exam Pattern and Syllabus

The candidates applying to CAT 2017 shall understand that the exam is of Computer Based Test (not online) and not a regular Pen and Paper based exam. The test is conducted for duration of 180 minutes where the candidates have to answer the paper on a computer screen.

The CAT 2017 paper consists of 100 questions categorized to 3 sections as follows.

The questions will be of MCQ and non-MCQ type questions. The MCQ type questions will have 4 options each with single correct option and candidates have to select the answer on the computer screen. For answering the non-MCQ type questions candidates have to type the answer using computer keyboard.

Coming to the marks all the questions carry equal marks. The right answer to a MCQ type question will carry 3 marks and 1 mark will be deducted for wrong answer. For non-MCQ type questions negative marking is not adopted, right answer will fetch 3 marks and no marks will be deducted for wrong answer.

Syllabus

For preparation of CAT 2017 no specific syllabus is defined by the organizing body. A mock test will be made available on the CAT website for applicants to understand and obtain acquaintance of the exam pattern and question types.
